Volunteers are needed to serve in the Village Mercantile gift shop and grocery store in the Community Center at Oakwood Village Prairie Ridge Retirement Community. Volunteers are needed to help Monday-Friday 9:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. or 12:30-3:15 p.m., and Saturday, 12:45-3:15 p.m. Duties include assisting customers with finding items, reading labels and cards, gift wrapping, and checking customers out. In addition, male volunteers are especially needed to assist the grocery store co-managers with unloading groceries once a week, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 9:30-10:30 a.m. New Village Mercantile volunteers receive training. Volunteers receive a 20% discount on regular-priced gift shop merchandise on the day(s) they volunteer in the Mercantile.

More people are needed to fill this opportunity to ensure the Village Mercantile is adequately staffed to be open on the scheduled days it needs to be open as promised to the Oakwood Village Prairie Ridge residents in having this service for them. People who would like to be a Village Mercantile volunteer will be required to volunteer a minimum of 6 months and go through Oakwood's registration/orientation process to be considered for placement as a volunteer.

Interested persons need to go through Oakwood Village's registration and orientation process, and make a minimum 6 month commitment, to be considered for placement. Training provided by Village Mercantile managers upon placement. Volunteers should have good social skills in working cooperatively with fellow volunteers and providing good customer service to Oakwood Village Prairie Ridge residents and other customers (Oakwood staff, other volunteers, family member and visitors). Good organizational skills are also needed to remember basic operations of Village Mercantile while open. Experience operating money handling and cash register operation beneficial, but not necessary.

Directions:
 Oakwood Village East is located at 5565 Tancho Drive, near American Family Insurance Headquarters, in the vicinity of Hwy. 151 and I-90/94. From Hwy. 151, take the American Parkway exit and follow it to Tancho Drive. Turn right onto Tancho and immediately turn left into the Oakwood Village East main entrance. Oakwood East is accessible by car only at this time. There are no Madison Metro bus routes in the vicinity.
